Stompede Background

Two worlds

There are two worlds in the snowboarding scene. One revolves around trends, seasonal colors, and big marketing campaigns—almost like the fashion industry. And then there's the other world. This one is about durable boards, proven quality, genuine riding fun, and the joy of the mountains and deep powder. Our world.

You've probably noticed that there are brands that are everywhere: in magazines, at major events, with pro teams traveling the world, on Instagram, YouTube, and with countless models in every store. This begs the question: Who pays for all of this?

In the past, that was the only way to gain attention. If we had started back then, we probably would have done the same. But we live in a different time and have consciously chosen our own path.

Fifteen years ago, the major brands offered only very expensive splitboards. Today, they also have models that cost 50-70 percent less. How is this possible if nothing has changed in their business model? Quite simply, by cutting costs on materials and production. We believe there's another way: a more direct, efficient path to the customer. This way, you can build high-end boards with top-quality materials and still maintain fair prices.

But why don't the big players use this efficient approach? For the same reason Blockbuster saw what Netflix was doing but couldn't respond. Large structures can't simply be scaled down to lean, flexible systems.

Many brands offer over 20 models, each in multiple variations. This leads to logistical chaos and makes it difficult for customers to find the right board. We believe this is unnecessary. Splitboard beginners are generally not snowboard beginners – so why should they settle for entry-level quality? Isn't it especially important in off-piste terrain to be able to fully rely on your board for both the ascent and descent?

We focus on three shapes, which we constantly improve based on customer feedback. For us, they cover everything you really need. We reject the idea that you have to choose between high-end boards costing over €1000 and entry-level models below that price.

Not for everyone

Of the thousands of splitboarders in the DACH region who are put off by overpriced boards, only about seven percent find their way to this page. This is because not everyone is picky when it comes to their board. But they should be.

It takes years to develop sustainable boards that perform better than most of what we've known so far. If I had found a board back then that cost 900 euros and met my requirements, I would have gratefully accepted it and probably never started developing my own.

Hurdles?

As a small family business based in Tyrol, we see firsthand every day the impact of extreme winter tourism on our beautiful natural environment. Like many others, we are certainly not innocent and have contributed to the problem. But at some point, you have to take responsibility and minimize this negative influence.

The process of converting our boards to a more sustainable construction was arduous.

  • months of research

  • Measuring laminates

  • A series of flex tests

  • building and testing prototypes

One hurdle followed another until, after 2 years of development, we finally held boards in our hands that we were truly completely satisfied with.

But if it were easy, everyone would do it. Why doesn't everyone do it? Because then it would be prohibitively expensive.

Today, we primarily use basalt laminates. These not only have a far better environmental footprint than fiberglass, but are also lighter and more durable, offering a superior ride feel. It's been a long journey, but you can now feel that passion in every board and in your wallet.

Longer-lasting thanks to good quality → sustainable for nature AND your wallet

Did you know that…

…basalt occurs on the moon just as it does in our laminates? The dark patches you see in moon photos are ancient lava flows – a tiny fun fact that shows how fascinating materials can be. Something similar happens on your board: each layer serves a specific purpose. Remove just one, and the riding experience changes completely – like a Jenga tower where every block counts.

Know-how that you can feel

Our boards are born from over three decades of experience and precision. As an engineer with a background in medical technology, I've learned that details make all the difference. Since 2011, countless hours have been invested in development, prototypes, extensive testing, and direct communication with our customers, shaping the boards you hold in your hands today. Every layer, every bend, every radius is optimized – not for marketing, but for you on the mountain.

Direct line

For many experienced snowboarders, splitboarding is still uncharted territory. We remember exactly how overwhelmed we were when buying our first splitboard and how difficult it was to find something that suited us. With us, you'll receive personalized advice from the people who developed your board. No call center, no AI, and no salesperson who reads the specs from the instruction leaflet only to sheepishly admit they're actually a skier (true story! 🤦‍♀️ ). Just honest conversations with people who have extensively used everything we stock in the shop.

Guaranteed risk-free

We know it: Buying a board online isn't so easy. You can't hold it in your hand, and especially with a brand I don't know, the question arises: "Is the quality really that good?", "Can I trust the brand?"

I've been snowboarding for over 30 years, and we only build boards that I ride and want to ride myself. We're so confident you'll be happy with our boards that we give you 100 days to test them completely risk-free. Don't like it? Send it back.
